Collections of Peter Prattinton, MA, MB (1776-1840), relating to the history of Worcestershire, consisting of notes and extracts, autograph letters, deeds, many original drawings, engravings, and printed material.
The collections are described by E.A.B. Barnard, FSA, in The Prattinton Collections of Worcestershire (Evesham, 1931), with further details in his typescript catalogues in SAL (1932, 1951). See also Barnard's paper, 'Some Additional Notes concerning the Prattinton Collections of Worcestershire History', 'Trans. of the Worcs. Arch. Soc., N. S. 8 (1931), 67-73 (offprint with the collection); C.R.J. Currie, C.P. Lewis (eds.), English County Histories. A Guide (Alan Sutton, Stroud, Glos., 1994), 428. An account of Prattinton's life is given in Barnard (1931), 1-19. Dr Prattinton was permitted to borrow the Habington collections (MSS/0143-8) in connection with his researches; Council Minutes, 7 June 1810.
The Prattinton bequest also included printed books relating to Worcestershire now in SAL (an annotated copy of the Worcs. section of Magna Britannia, VI (1738), 217-328, is kept with this fonds); and other collections (coins, antiquities, seal impressions and a cabinet (Mus. Cat., no. 294) containing geological specimens, and the documents now incorporated as PRA/11/04) described in A. Way, Catalogue of antiquities... in the possession of the Society of Antiquaries of London (1847), 41-6. Some seals from the Prattinton Collection are now in appendix of the seals collection formerly known as MS 1008, now part of the museum collection.
