Instrument issued by G[eoffrey], Archdeacon of Suffolk, and E., Prior of Snape, reciting the mandate addressed to them by H[ubert Walter], Archbishop of Canterbury, concerning the settlement of a dispute between the Prior and Canons of 'Buttel' (Butley, Suffolk) and the Prior and Monks of 'Herst' (also known as Mendham Priory) about a piece of land (1 acre and 3 rods) with tithes, in a place called 'Hareland', belonging by right to the church of 'Weiebred' (Weybread, Suffolk). Following a hearing before the Archbishop's Commissaries, the Prior and Monks of Herst resigned their right in the premises to the Commissaries and promised under oath to cease proceedings against Butley Priory. In return they were awarded the 3 rods of land, rendering 1d a year to the church of Weybread, whilst the Prior and Canons of Butley were to retain the 1 acre and the tithes from the whole property. 13 (named witnesses). 1 seal tag ( of 3) remaining.
