Ten deeds relating to property in Mendham and Chediston, Suffolk, and in North Elmham and East Dereham in Norfolk, including a legal instrument concerning a dispute between the Priories of Butley and Mendham, Suffolk.

The Priory of St Mary, Mendham, also known as the Priory of Herst, was founded by William of Huntingfield on land given to him by King Stephen as a cell of the Cluniac Priory of Castle Acre, Norfolk. W. Dugdale 'Monasticon Anglicarum' 1849, 58-59.

Archival history
The deeds were purchased by William St John Hope in June 1890 from Alfred T. Everitt of High Street, Portsmouth, who had purchased them for his own collection. Some of them had previously been held in the muniment room at Elmham Hall where they were examined by G.A Carthew FSA who published them in his 'History of Launditch Priory'.
