For details of Winston's career and his publications on painted glass see Gent. Mag. (Nov. 1864), 658-60; F. Boase, Modern English Biography (reprint 1965), III, 1445. His drawings were exhibited by the Archaeological Institute at the Arundel Society in 1865 (Arch. J., 22 (1865), 93), and a catalogue by J. B. Waring was published. Winston's drawings and other collections were subsequently presented by his widow to the British Museum (now BL Add. MSS 33846-33851, 35211).
