Miscellaneous historical notes and collections by John Weever including extracts from chronicles, Leland, Camden, many notes and extracts from records in the Tower, Cotton manuscripts, relating to monasteries, ancient tenures, epitaphs, copies of poems by John Gower, etc. Includes some accidental survivals of earlier material, e.g. a letter of Thomas Gargrave, 1568, fols. 399v-400, letter from four inmates of the Marshalsea to the Earl of Sussex praying for a warrant to set them free, fol. 416, and a letter (copy) of Lord Burghley and others conc. a dispute of the Earl of Sussex (Henry Radcliffe, 4th Earl of Sussex) and the Surveyor of the Queen's works in Portsmouth, 1584, fol. 417. Partial contents list to the present MS, fols. 1-4. Index, fols. 6-29, to Stow's Annals, etc. Annotated in red, 18th century. MSS/0196, fols. 1-8, contains notes on Weever by John Thorpe, senior.
