The following Fellows were elected: Dr. Robert Bland, William Hamilton, Rev. Dr. Walker King DD, Philip Stephens and George Samuel Wigg.
The following Fellow was admitted to the Society: Rt. Hon. Frederick Montagu.
Edmund Turnor presented engraved portraits of Stephen Gardiner, Bishop of Winchester, and Sir Christopher Wray, Lord Chief Justice of England [16th century] with a memoir.
Mr. Underwood and George Samuel exhibited specimens of their drawings.
Edmund Turnor exhibited a painting of a concert, circa 1720, with eminent performers: conductor, Senesino [Francesco Bernardi, a collaborator of Handel]; a lady, known as “the Baroness” [Joanna Maria Lindehleim or Lendenheim]; a lady, “Miss Robinson afterwards Countess of Huntingdon” [probably Anastasia Robinson, Countess of Peterborough]; two gentlemen, Dr. [Johann Christoph} Pepusch [composer] and [Johann Jacob] Heidegger [musical impresario]. Conjecture was offered on other performers, with remarks on fashions displayed.
John Charles Brooke exhibited two ancient MS Books of Devotion, unusual for having effigies of their owners. One book, the property of Rev. Denne, contained a portrait of Sir Gilbert Talbot KG, of Grafton, Worcestershire, third son of John Talbot, 2nd Earl of Shrewsbury. Dateable to either 1502 or 1513, it was probably written and presented by a Friar of the House of Grey Friars in Bridgenorth, Salop, founded by John, first Earl of Shrewsbury and grandfather of Sir Gilbert, and likely to be the one bequeathed by Sir Gilbert to a chantry chapel in Whitchurch. The other book was a wood-bound Sarum Missal, exhibited by permission of its owner, Lord Fitzwilliam. Mr. Brooke also exhibited a Bible, with a covering worked by Mrs. Anne Killigrew, widely celebrated for her poetry and painting by Lord Orford [Horace Walpole], [John Dryden] and others.
