The following Fellow was recommended for election: Rev. John Gordon D.D., Precentor of Lincoln Cathedral.
Sir John William de la Pole Bt. [editor] presented “Collections towards a Description of the County of Devon”, by Sir William Pole of Colcombe and Shute [1561-1635; author]; [first printed 1791].
James Moore presented Nos. 2, 3 and 4 of “Monastic Remains and Ancient Castles in England and Wales”.
The Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce presented Transactions Vol. 9.
Richard Gough (Director) communicated an account of the rates of wages of servants, labourers and artificers, assessed by the Justices of the Peace at Oakham in Rutland, April 1610. Variations arose depending on circumstances and application continued from 1626 to 1634. From High Constables’ records, he noted an assessment for provision for the King’s Household temp. James I and Charles I., with quotas for poultry, cereals, straw and butter; also financial levies, but with alternatives in kind.
John Caley communicated an Augmentation Office survey of the manor of Wimbledon, Surrey, late possession of Queen Henrietta Maria, relict of King Charles I, taken in Nov 1649 by trustees appointed by Parliamentary Commission for the sale of former Royal possessions. The survey gave details, room by room, but further consideration was postponed to a later date.
Charles Lambert exhibited a brick fragment found under the walls of Pevensey Castle, Sussex.
