Extracts from the late Major General William Roy’s four books on Roman military antiquities in North Britain were read, touching on Roman Camps, both Castra Stativa and temporary earthworks, mid-century discoveries in Scotland made by Captain Melville and during a survey of the Antonine Wall, as well as more accurate site surveys and drawings; indications of the Roman Army route of advance from North Britain in to Scotland, particularly during Agricola’s campaigns. Contains some related discussion of surveying and map-making principles.
