Scope and content
Extract from Stepney manor court roll relating to the admission of Katherine Denton and Agnes Tournour, nieces of Alice Snowden, to a garden near Whitechapel adjacent to Bryklane (Brick Lane) on the east part on which is built a cottage formerly held by William Chamblyn. When Alice Snowden, lately wife of Henry Laurenc(e), died some years ago, the next heirs were said to be Agnes Poyntell (sister of Alice) and Thomas Asp(er), clerk, son of Agnes Asp(er), another sister of said Alice. Now Katherine Denton, daughter of John Smyth tanner, and his wife Katherine, another sister of Alice, and Agnes Turnour daughter of Ralph Marschall and Joan his wife, another sister, claim equal right to the property and are admitted.
