A collection of drawings of sepulchral monuments, arms, etc., in Shropshire, made for the Rev. William Mytton of Halston, Shropshire. The collection was apparently made for Mytton shortly after his return from Italy in 1733, as part of his collections for a history of Shropshire, by James Bowen, herald painter, of Shrewsbury; see fol. i, quoted from the account of books, etc., relating to Shropshire, appended to T. F. Dukes, Antiquities of Shropshire (1844). Many of the drawings are dated 1734. Consists of drawings (pen, wash, w/col), and arms in colour or trick, laid down. Includes churches and domestic buildings, monuments, incised slabs, brasses, arms from monuments and stained glass (ecclesiastical and secular). The arrangement is basically alphabetical, by parishes. Some of the arms in trick are copied from visitations at the College of Arms (e.g. p. 257 from Vincent MS 134). Index, pp. 413, 415.
