Papers connected with the Order of the Garter, late 16th century-1639. Contents list by Mill Stephenson, FSA, fols. iii-iv. Twelve items:- (1) 'Short Remembrances for the Elect Knt'. Guidance on dress and procedure, fols. 1-2v;- (2) 'Certen Chapters not yet registred into the Booke of Statutes of ye most noble Order of the Garter'. Summaries of decisions of chapters held in 4, 7-9, 13 Eliz. fols. 3-4;- (3) 'Juramentum Prelati et Cancellarii Ordinis quod scriba eisdem exhibebit..'. Forms of oaths and other formalities connected with the Order, with other notes including (fol. 14v) a priced list of achievements and other requirements for installation. Late 16th century. Partly Latin, fols. 5-16v;- (4)-(6) Fees payable on the death of knights. fols. 17-24;- (7) 'What stalles strangers and forein Princes have sate in at Windesor..'. fols. 25-6v;- (8) 'These thinges to be preparid at the funerall of the Lord Shandoes knight of ye Garter' (Sir Edmund Brydges, 2nd Baron Chandos, d. 1573). fols. 27-9;- (9) 'The 26 Stalles at Windsor, wth ye Styles of all ye Knights of ye Gart. now living. 1604'.
