Scope and content
Two professional collections of arms, some with crests, in trick, entered in printed shield outlines c. 1693 (cf. fol. viii)-mid 18th century. As follows:- (1) Arms relating to visitations of Beds., Essex and Berks., a collection of arms of Hall (pp. 12-15), excerpt from Glover's Ordinary (pp. 54-64), London arms, etc. Occasional dates, 1696 (p. 15), 1688 (p. 67). Index, fols. iv-vii verso. pp. 1-68;- (2) Arms including references to grants by John Anstis to 1739, and marginal notes to 1749. A few arms in colour. Arms of emperors and kings, fol. 22r,v. Index, fols. xi-xvi verso. fols. 1-76. Extra shields and miscellaneous notes added in the margins of both collections.
