Leather spine, brown, with dark green pasteboard. Bookplate (by Hogarth) of John Holland, herald painter, fol. i, with the name 'John Holland No. 1' (in the same hand as the note in MSS/0393). Miscellaneous annotations:- '(4)', fol. 1; 'Num 15', fol. ii; '105', on the back pastedown, fol. iv.
Scope and content
Part of an alphabet of English arms, AB- BL only (fols. 3-34); late 17th century. Blazons, with small ink drawings of charges. Begins with the arms of Abraham the Patriarch (cf. College of Arms MSS L. 1, L.2; Wall's book, MSS/0679), followed by Abelyn; ends Blanton. At fols. 37-8v BV (Burke) to CA (Catesby) added by a different hand.
