Scope and content
An armorial containing over 2200 coats of arms. Contents (many blank pages):-

(1) Arms with crests (some crests without arms), mostly coloured, of English families. Possibly the working collection of a herald painter. Commenced, post Restoration, as an alphabet of arms (to fol. 17), with additions to c. 1700, and later additions to 1783 (cf. fol. 47). Includes (fol. 31) an insertion of fictitious arms, Prester John, Emperor of Constantinople, Julius Caesar, etc. fols. 1-47;-

(2) An ordinary of arms, roughly coloured and incomplete (preceded by instructions conc. shield outlines, 18th century, fol. 57, and six shields (Lacy family, etc.), with notes, 18th century, fol. 59). fols. 59v-79v;-

(3) Scottish arms, some in trick and some coloured. Heading, 'Scotch armes of ye Nobility taken for a pack of Cards set forth by Sr: Alexander Arrskin [Erskine] Lion King of Armes' (Sir Alexander Erskine, joint Lyon King 1677, succeeded 27 June 1681). fols. 80-93;-
