The engravings were probably mounted for Pierre Aveline whose arms and anagram, beg. 'Peine et Laurier', are on fol. ii (?Pierre Aveline, engraver and publisher, of Paris, 1654-1722). On the front pastedown, 'Ce livre est a moy Nurjot(?)'.

'Les Noms, Qualitez, Armes, et Blazons de tous les Chevaliers, Commandeurs, et Officiers de l'Ordre du St. Esprit creez par le Roy Henry III ...' by Jacques Chevillard, Historiographe de France (fol. 1; separate titles for the succeeding reigns, fols. 20, 32,50); compiled after 1715 (cf. fol. 81). French. Engravings, cut up and laid down, containing the arms, names, and titles of the knights, commanders and officers of the order from the first chapter (1578) to the 47th chapter (1712), with the addition of the arms of the Cardinal de Rohan, created 10 June 1713, fol. 78. Full page engraved portraits of Henry III, fol. 3, the Duc de Nevers (the first knight created), fol. 4. Engraved arms of the order (with variations) before each reign, fols. 2,21, 33,51. Index of names, fols. 91-2v. J. Guigard, Bibliothèque héraldique de la France (1861), no.741, describes the engraved series relating to the first to forty-sixth chapter, published in 1711; no.742 is the series relating to the forty-eighth to ninety-second chapter, published in 1759.
