Scope and content
"Observations upon the 2d.. 16th Plates of the English silver Coins, engraven by the late Martin Folkes Esq. now the Property of the Society of Antiquaries..", by Andrew Coltée Ducarel, LL.D, FSA; 1755 (fol. v). Together with (fols. 58-92) observations on the 17th to 32nd Plates (fol. 58, 'ye whole was finished Dec 24 1755'). The observations, which consist of detailed descriptions, references to existing examples of coins, historical notes and bibliographic references, relate to the proposal for a revised edition (published 1763) of Folkes's tables of coins. In 1754, after Folkes's death, SA purchased 44 plates and the copyright from his executors. See J. Evans (1956), 95-6; MSS/0657. The plates cannot now be traced in SA collections.
