Scope and content
A BOOKE OF SVCH Speeches & passages as passed in the Parliament, begunne and holden at WestminsterYe xix day of February Ao. Domi. 1623o..' (fol. vi). Written by William Yonger (signature on the ornamental titlepage, with royal arms of James I, fol. vi). The names of those summoned (fols. 1-11v) precede the speeches (fols. 13-54). Royal arms, in ink, fol. 12v. Followed by 'Speaches and Passages in the Parliament begon and holden at Westminster xviiio. June Anno primo Caroli Regis.. and.. adiourned to be holden at Oxford 1o August..' (title page, fol. 56, with Yonger's initials and the date 1625; penwork border), with the names of those summoned (fols. 57-60v) and the speeches (fols. 62-75v). At the end of the volume (reversed) are later additions including lists of the knights and other members chosen for Norfolk, with the numbers of votes cast, 12 July 1654, 20 Aug. 1656 (fols. 80v-79v); 'Perfitt Intelligence of the fight wth Holland 1665' (conc. the sea battle in Southwold Bay, 3 June 1665, listing those killed including Charles, 1st Earl of Falmouth), said to be a copy of intelligence from the Duke of Albemarle's secretary (fol. 78v); 'Brode side more for the Dutch or ye Belgicke Lion couchant' beg. 'Then quaffe no more' (fol. 77v, r); notes on the dangers of dealing in the affairs of princes (fol. 76v). Miscellaneous notes and accounts (fols. 81, 81v, and inside the back cover).
