Containing all or parts of former bundles MSS/0178 (Ellis, arts. 9-14), 183 (one leaf), 188 (Ellis, art. 9), 189 (part), 190 (Ellis, arts. 2, 3), 191, 192, 194, 204. Consists of transcripts relating mainly to Rochester by John Thorpe, senior, and others including Thomas Allen and John Baynard. Arranged in five sections. Contents leaves at the front and before each section.
Section I. Transcripts of deeds mainly from the register of Rochester Priory (BL Cotton MS Domitian A.x). Arranged alphabetically by parishes (index at the front). Preliminary leaves include a schedule by John Thorpe, senior, of deeds transcribed. Foliation (irregular): prelims + ff. 2 + 6 (mostly from MSS/0189 but including, at fol. 2, MSS/0188 (Ellis, art. 9)) + ff. 125 + 4 (from MSS/0204, including, at fols. 53-8, MSS/0178 (Ellis, arts. 9-14), with one leaf, after fol. 125, from MSS/0183).
Section II. Mostly from MSS/0191. Transcripts from the Registrum Temporale relating to rents, services, inquisitions, and extents, with a few leaves relating to bishops (from MSS/0189). Foliation (irregular): ff. 66 + fols. 3-10 (from MSS/0189).
Section III. Contains MSS/0190 (Ellis, arts. 3, 2). Two transcripts:- MSS/0190 (Ellis, art. 3). Homage paid to the Bp of Rochester, 12 Edw. III and 9 Ric. II. fols. 1-6;- MSS/0190 (Ellis, art. 2). Statutes of Henry VIII for Rochester (1541), from the Augmentation Office (cf. note from J. Whitehead, 19 Feb. 1711/12, fol. 10b). fols. 7-20.
Section IV. Contains MSS/0192. Transcripts of deeds of the corporation of Rochester Bridge relating to private estates (listed on the contents sheet). ff. 16.
Section V. Contains MSS/0194. Transcripts of charters and accounts relating to Leeds Priory, mostly from a cartulary formerly in the possession of Sir Edward Filmer, 3rd Bt. (d. 1755). Only a fragment of the original is now extant (see G. R. C. Davis, Medieval Cartularies (1958), 61-2, no. 544). ff. 51.
