“A true Discourse of the Ancient woodden and prsent stone Bridge at Rochester ... collected & written by Sr Roger Manwood Knt. ... 1586 …'"(heading, fol.1). (Sir Roger Manwood was Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer and one of the wardens of the bridge.)

Transcript by John Thorpe, senior. Begins with a Latin poem on the foundation and conservation of the bridge, followed by excerpts from records in the Tower, lists of contributory lands, fols. 6v-10, and a history of the bridge with much relating to the 1575 commission, and excerpts from Acts of Parliament to 1702, fols. 10v-34v. With a transcript of the Act of 39 Eliz. establishing the new college at Cobham, Kent (said to have been inserted into Thorpe's source by Francis Barrell, one of the assistants of the bridge, because it was not in the printed statutes), fols. 35-7v.
