Contents:-

(1) Extracts, mostly connected with the Mortimer family:- (a) relating to William Marshal (d. 1219), marshal of England, and the marriages of his daughters (fols. 1r, v, 2v-3). The office of Earl Marshal was later (1369-77) held by Edmund Mortimer, 3rd Earl of March;- (b) Extracts from a register of Roger, 2nd Earl of March, from Easter 1355, cone, tenants of the lordship of Denbigh, etc. (fol. 2), and brief and remembrance relating to the right of Nicholas, son and heir of John Bacon, to the office of Chief Serjeanty of Meath, Ireland, 1353 (fol. 4r, v). fols. 1-4;-

(2) Transcripts of portions of the Red Book of the Exchequer including the certificate or return of Knights Fees held of the king in capite, 1166, charters, papal, imperial and royal correspondence, etc., temp. Hen. II-Hen. III. See H. Hall (ed.), The Red Book of the Exchequer, I (1896), xcii, xcvii-ciii, 186-445, for all except the charter of liberties of Henry II (fols. 35-6) (a longer version than that given in Statutes, I, 4). fols. 5-36;-

(3) An incomplete series of deeds conc. the descent of the lords of the manors of Wellowe and Farley, etc., Somerset, from Henry de Montfort, temp. King John-43 Edw. III. fols. 37-8v;-

(4) Short treatise in French on the creation of knights (printed in Sir E. Bysshe, Nicholas Upton: de Studio Militari (1654), notes, 21-4), with other extracts conc. forms of creating knights, and a note on the Latin names of winds, fols. 39-40;-

(5) 'Modus allationis Sanguinis domini nostri Jesu Christi ad Villam Burgen. per Theodoricum Comitem Flandr.'. An account of the Holy Blood brought to Bruges from the Holy Land by Theodore, Count of Flanders, 1149. fol. 40v;-

(6) Poem relating the instruction on chivalry given to Saladin by Hue de Tabarie, beg. 'Jadys y fuist vn Sarasyn'. Imperfect.
