Scope and content
'Duplicate of the Jewell Houses in the Tower' (fol. 1). Original copy of the inventories and valuations of the Crown jewels, etc., made in 1649. Containing:- 'A True Inventorie and Appraismt of all the Plate now being in the Lower Jewell House of the Tower in the Custodie of Mr Carew Mildmay made and taken 13th Aug: 1649', fols. 4-5v, followed by an inventory of plate and jewels in the Upper Jewel House in the custody of Sir Henry Mildmay, fols. 6-17, note of plate in Whitehall Jewel House, fol. 17, inventories of part of the Regalia 'now' removed from Westminster to the Tower Jewel House, fols. 17v-18, of regalia in Westminster Abbey, fol. 18v, and of items in Somerset House Closet, received from gentlemen, fols. 18v-19. Note, fol. 16v, that the crowns (cf. fol. 14r, v) had been broken and defaced by order of Parliament, since the inventory was taken. Valuations throughout. Signatures of A.
