Scope and content
Petition by Edmund Bolton addressed to James I for a Royal Academy. Various recensions survive of Bolton's project for an academy of noble and distinguished persons. The present manuscript is of Bolton's second petition (with a typewritten transcript, MSS/0103/B).

Owned by Sylvanus Morgan (1620-93), the herald painter (signature and motto, fol. i). Another manuscript (now BL Add. MS 24488, fols. 66-87), formerly owned by Sylvanus Morgan, was in the possession of the Rev. Joseph Hunter, VPSA, in 1847 (Archaeologia, 32 (1847), 132-49); see also Proc., 1st ser., 1 (1843-9), 161-3. One of the MSS formerly owned by Sylvanus Morgan was exhibited to SA by Peter Le Neve, PSA, 28 June 1721, 17 March 1725. Minute Book I, pp. 47, 149.
