'A Description of the County of Cumberland' by John Denton of Cardew (d. 1617), collated by the Rev. Charles Lyttelton, Bishop of Carlisle 1762 (his note, fol. ii) with another copy (formerly owned by Thomas Machell, which came with other Machell papers to William Nicolson, Bishop of Carlisle, 1702-18; see Ferguson (below), iii); copy, temp. Bishop Fleming, 1735-47, with additions by Lyttelton, after 1762.

This manuscript and others are described in the edition of Denton's work by R. S. Ferguson in Cumberland and Westmorland Ant. and Arch. Soc., Tracts 2 (1887), iii, v. List of holders of the manors of Cardew and Dalston Magna inserted, fol. 34, with Denton pedigree to John Denton 'The Author of this Book'.
