1. 1901: four letters and one page of notes clipped together, concerning ingots:
- undated notes taken by Gowland from Mommsen on Lingots. 1 sheet.
- 1901, 6 July. Letter from Charles F Routledge, Honorary Secretary and Treasurer of the Richborough Castle Trustees, asking Gowland for the return of a silver ingot found at Richborough which Gowland was analysing, and which has been our of Routledge's hands for nine months. With draft reply by Gowland saying that he had been under the impression that he could hold on to the ingot until he had read his paper; he will not be able to send it before the end of September, but will do so immediately after his return. 1 sheet.
- 1901, 11 October. Letter from Routledge to Gowland, pressing for the return of the ingot, which has not yet been seen by his fellow-trustees; may be able to lend it again for the night when Gowland reads his paper. 1 sheet.
- 1902, 16 December. Letter from a correspondent in Munich to Gowland, concerning Roman coins. In German. 2 sheets.
- [?1902], 23 September. Letter from CH Read to Gowland: Read is just back from Dover; 'a 'Hanover man is examining our Roman silver ingots'; if they are to be analysed, this should be done by an expert - could Gowland do the work by mid-October; hopes that Mrs Gowland is improving. 1 sheet.

2. 1900-1903: seven letters, all in German, from Dr H Willess, Hanover, to Gowland, concerning silver. With some draft replies, one noted by Gowland 'Send Silchester paper'.
