Ordinance issued and agreed by the Mayor, Sheriff, Aldermen, Justices of the Peace by the authority of the Common Guild of Newcastle upon Tyne on 10 October 1442 that all 'Barbours' (Barbers) dwelling in the town take part in the annual procession on the feast of Corpus Christi in a livery and stage their play 'the Baptisyng of Crist' at their own cost, following the ordinance of their wardens, and that everyone of the said craft attend the procession at Newgate at the hour assigned and go with their pageant when it should be played in a livery, with other provisions regulating the craft. Also that the craft should maintain the light of St John the Baptist in St Nicholas's church and pay for it as long as they are able. Inscribed with the names of the Barbers sworn to obey the ordinance and subsequently signed by later Barbers and Barber Surgeons until 1616. Endorsed with memorandum, dated 11 September 1669, of the enrolment of the document in the 'Booke of Inrolm[en]ts' (Book 3 fol.64) in the Guildhall of Newcastle upon Tyne . 4 seal tags.
