Scope and content
Heraldic and genealogical notebooks from the collections of John James Watts, Knight of Malta (1859), of Hawkesdale Hall, Cumberland. John James Watts and Sir George Bowyer were active in re-establishing the Catholic Order of Malta in England, now the British Association of the Knights of Malta. Many of the notebooks contain notes and pedigrees relating to the Watts family. Coats of arms in trick and colour throughout. The present description retains the sub-numbers allocated by SA when the collection was incorporated. No. 31 includes contents lists for the present nos. 2, 1, 3, 24, 13, 14. See also MSS/0431.
