Notes provided on 71 castles. These include: Acton Bromell, Bishops, Brompton, Ellesmere, Ludlow, Middle, Shrewsbury, Whittington, Wroxeter.
Wall has provided detailed notes on the histories and composition of the castles. Of note are extensive notes on Ludlow castle, and the same for Shrewsbury. These include dated histories and sketches of ground plans and of particular structures in the castles. There are postcards in envelopes of Ludlow castle as well as handbooks of Ludlow and Whittington castle, and a reproduced map of Earthworks in Shropshire from 1889.
These notes were the basis for the section entitled "The Early Earthworks" in VCH, Shropshire volume 1 (1908).
