Notes provided on 44 castles. These include: Ackesden, Barking, Bocking, Colchester, Downham, Hadleigh, Rayleigh, Saffron Walden, Stock, Wetherfield.
Wall has provided detailed histories of the castles, whilst also providing analysis of their composition and structure. There is also a preface as to what can be found throughout his analysis detailing the history of why the castles were built and their historical significance.
Of note are the sketches and plates of particular castles, a small booklet entailing the history of Colchester is enclosed. Likewise with Hedingham castle, a lengthy and detailed description is provided with multiple floor plans, postcards, and sketches of the castle.
