"The normal format of the main notebooks is a drawing on the face of each leaf, with caption and notes on the verso of the previous leaf. At a later date several drawings have been torn out … and the captions on the versos copied onto the drawings to which they belong in what seems to be a different hand, either Sweeting later in life or someone else's."
