1. 5 copies of an offprint of A R Wagner, ‘The Dictionary of British Arms’, Antiquaries Journal 21 (1941), 229-322. This includes rules for the construction of the Armory and Ordinary index cards.

2. Folder marked ‘CLC/MISC Correspondence 1961-2’, containing correspondence mainly between Anthony Wagner and TD Tremlett (a) on various aspects of editing Rolls of Arms, and (b) with Noel Denholm-Young concerning the Song of Caerlaverock and the Parliamentary Roll, 1961-1962.

3. Folder marked in Hubert Chesshyre’s hand ‘Sources Indexed for the Dictionary of British Arms from 1940 onwards’, containing:
Index card ‘File codes 1977’, listing the various stages of preparation and checking of the articles on Family Arms.
Photocopies of typescript material recording progress on the indexing of sources, 1940-1955.

4. Folder marked ‘Papworth List /NDBA / List of names ?1967’, containing:
List by Wagner, ‘Rolls of Arms of which typescripts are wanted, 8/2/55’. MS original, followed by typescript top copy.
List headed ‘Books to be moved to Papworth Room’, with additional section in Wagner’s hand headed ‘B. Also wanted’. MS.
Index of names, pp [1]-61, headed in MS ‘Apparently Mrs Nisbet’s list of fam[ilie]s compiled from the guide cards in 1967 tho’ it doesn’t seem to correspond to the latter now. DHBC 10/4/73.’ TS carbon.

5. Folder marked ‘Schedules & notes’ and ‘Papworth Transit file’, containing a mixture of MS and typescript notes on various families (surnames from throughout the alphabet).

6. Small blue notebook marked on front cover ‘Papworkers’, containing list of names of indexers, with the sources each indexed and dates.

7. 4 notebooks, cut for indexing, containing lists of family names, arranged alphabetically by initial letter. They appear to have been compiled in 1962.
- Marked on cover ‘Articles for New Dictionary of British Arms / I First Draft’.
- Marked inside front cover ‘Top drawer: total 195 on Nov 25th 62’.
- Marked on first page ‘2nd drawer down’, and later by DHBC ‘This is superseded by new card index of articles’.
- Marked on first page ‘Typescripts (in books)’.
(Comparison suggests this does not refer to the spring binders of top copies, SAL/17/03/01.)

8. Folder marked ‘Family Arms’, containing same sort of notes as in the boxes of draft articles. Contents all MS.

9. Folder unmarked on outside, containing MS similar to those in the boxes of draft articles (see SAL/17/03/02).

10. Folder marked ‘Papworth Queries /papers passed to DHBC by Mrs Nisbet 20/10/73’, containing same sort of notes as in the boxes of draft articles. Contents MS and TS carbon.
