Scope and content
Report produced in response to the proposal to build a sizeable dam at Aswan, which would result in the flooding of a number of archaeological sites, including Dendur and Kalabsheh. The report details areas expected to be submerged during the construction and queries the archaeological impact of losing access to these sites as well as alternate options such as building smaller dams further down the Nile before beginning construction in Egypt, proposing that the alternatives are the preferable options.
There are some letters written discussing the issue, with one addressed to Earl of Kimberly, Private Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, advising that a full report, with excavations if necessary, of the sites to be affected be produced.
