Scope and content
Collection of newspaper clippings and correspondence relating to the Lincoln Wren Library, specifically a proposal to relocate the building and the library collection and recreate a ‘modern’ recreation of the original cloister wall. There is a letter claiming that an unnamed person (half of the letter is missing) financially supported the initial proposal only in order to get approved demolition for a number of houses which were blocking the view from his house and had no interest in seeing the project through to completion beyond this stage. The proposal was ultimately dropped after a significant publicity campaign and condemnation from a number of historic/antiquarian groups.
