A description of the painting is published in "An Inquiry into the History, Authenticity & Characteristics of Shakespeare Portraits”, in the chapter ‘An Account of the Portrait by Zucchero’ (pp. 327-330), where it is described as belonging to Richard Cosway: https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9781107300224.027

The question of the portrait is addressed in a response to this exhibition, mentioned in the minutes for 30th November 1848, with issues raised relating to the authenticity of the painting.

There is a memorandum included offering a full history of provenance, with Mr Pott stating that it was discovered, amongst other paintings, in a chest which once belonged to his grandfather, William Keller.
