Nicolas was a council member but soon criticised the way the Society was run and questioned the finances, insisting on a full financial audit from the 13th Statute to 1828 and cross referencing the minutes to create lists of all Fellows elected and nominated.
There is a rough list of expenditure from 1771 onwards.
Nicholas Harris Nicolas ultimately withdrew from the Society in April 1828, citing ‘the conduct from its offices’.
