Scope and content
Letter from Joseph Banks with a description of a monument, and William Marshall presenting a drawing of the monumental cross/pillar discovered near Kilnsea, Yorkshire. He believes it to commemorate a shipwreck and a drawing is included.

Mentioned in the minutes for 7th July 1808: https://collections.sal.org.uk/sal.02.031.078

While there is a cross, believed to date from the 14th century, standing in the grounds of Holyrood House, Kilnsea, it doesn’t appear to be the cross in the drawing. The area is notorious for coastal erosion so it’s possible the cross from the drawing has been lost to the sea.
