Letter from W. Blizzard presenting a ring claimed to have been removed from the body of Tipu, Sultan of Mysore. It is described as having an inscription which reads ‘Dominion Belongs To God, The Only, The Victorious’. He claims that Major Marriott, who was given charge of the young princes after the battle, confirmed the ring was authentic and provided the translation of the inscription.
Mentioned in the minutes for 5th February 1807: https://collections.sal.org.uk/sal.02.031.030
Two rings are claimed to have been removed from the Sultan’s fingers after the battle of Srirangapatna, one in the British Museum and the other in a private collection after a sale in 2014 but neither match the description given in this instance, with the engraving.
