Joseph Jeckyl presents a letter written by Stephen Lake relating to the divorce between Lady Francis Howard and Robert Devereux, Earl of Essex, dated 21st December 1615. They refer to the possibility of witchcraft having been used to bring about impotence, and mention that, as part of the trial, James I confirmed that this would be possible. It also comments on the trial of Anne Turner for her part in the murder plot in which Lady Francis Howard was implicated, with Stephen Lake appearing to be consulted for an opinion after the date of execution, and mentions that she was declared a witch before the jury passed a verdict of murder.
