Scope and content
Collections mostly concerning the Greek inscription on the Rosetta stone commemorating the accession of Ptolemy V Epiphanes, from the papers of the Rev. John Brand, Sec. SA. The Rosetta stone was deposited in SA, 1802-3 (see Evans (1956), 199-200; Minute Book XXIX, p.146, and many subsequent communications conc. the inscriptions). The papers consist of annotated transcriptions, notes on related topics mostly from bibliographic sources, and papers relating to casts and the facsimile engraving (1802) by James Basire (Vetusta Monumenta, IV (1815), pl.VII). See also Archaeologia, 16 (1812), 208-63. Bound in at the end a copy of Reflections on the Natural Foundation ... of Government ... in Egypt (Oxford, 1743).
