Scope and content
Letter from CT Ramage to his mother from Rome on 26 June 1828 reporting his safe arrival in Rome. He had left Naples on 29 April, going on foot for 300 miles towards the 'extreme point of Italy', then horseback from Maida to cross the Appenines at Casalnuovo before turning back north along the Ionian Sea towards Toranto and Capo de Leuca and Brindisi; he visited Venosa (birthplace of Horace), crossed the Appenines by Campobasso and descending by Venefro before making his way to Rome. He had been furnished with letters by Sir Henry Lushington and General Filangieri (Prince of Satriano), which proved necessary in almost every place he visited. Speaks of great kindness of Sir Henry, who has offered to second any application he may make respecting a living in the Scotch church. Plans to stay in Rome until 24 or 25 July 1828, then proceed towards Florence.
