Letter from CT Ramage to his mother from Naples on 30 November 1826, upon the departure of a courrier with the news of the Marquis of Hastings' death [died at sea off Naples two years later aboard HMS Revenge]. Reports on the visit of Mr and Mrs Pillans, an expedition with Mr Charles Lushington and Mr Dykes to the palace of Caserta, the nearby acqueduct (Vanvitelli), the Candine Forcks, Benevento, Sulphurous lake at Ampsanctus. Reports there are many English in Naples: Prince Leopold, Mr Lambton, Lady Warwick, Bishop of Ospory, Lady Burrard and 'thousands of plebeians'. Reports his eldest pupil has devided to enter the army, likely joining a regiment at Corfu in four months. Plans to dine out with Mr Oats, one of the principal merchants in Naples, for New Year.
