Writes of his relief upon hearing that his mother is recovering from ill health. Details a first 'dinner in the Italian fashion' including oysters ('which I detest particularly'), spinach and butter ('which was odd enough to me'), fish, and concluding with sweet meats, cheese and fruit; cards, dance and music followed dinner. Details his living arrangements in Naples ('there is no danger of my being suffocated') and a visit onboard HMS Revenge with Sir H Lushington.
