Wooden printed block; one of forty-four blocks designed by Edward Burne-Jones and created to accompany William Morris's verse rendering the 'Story of Cupid and Psyche’, to be published in his illustrated edition of The Earthly Paradise.
Morris hand engraved at least 35 of the 44 'Cupid and Psyche' printing blocks, the only wood engravings that Morris is known to have made. The Psyche in the garden block seen here has been identified as one of those engraved by Morris.
