Oil on oak panel showing unknown Saxon king in side profile, with his arms raised in prayer. The painting appears on a one-third width panel. 1 of 6 fragments.
This oil on oak panel portrait appears on a narrow fragment, one-third the width of of a full sized panel, and features an unknown Saxon prince or king, in side profile, with his hands raised to his chest and joined in prayer. The monarch is clean-shaven and appears younger than the other figures that feature in the scheme. Of the surviving paintings, only Athelstan (LDSAL509.1) and the praying prince, seen here, are on upright boards - the rest being horizontal.
