Printing plate with a bust portrait of John Milton (possibly) with his right hand resting on a book. The book spine is lettered 'Scrutamini Scripturas'. Printing plate maker's stamp on the reverse. The plate is undated and unsigned.

    Printing plate with a bust portrait of John Milton (possibly). Printing plate maker's stamp on the reverse.
    The plate is undated and unsigned. The lettering on the book engraved reads 'Scrutamini Scripturas' and is a quote from John Selden's 'Table-Talk'. That supports the identification of the sitter with John Milton, who highly admired Seldon and his work.
