Printing plate portraying Reverend William Pennicott.
This plate was made after the original portrait painting by Thomas Lawrence in the collection of Thomas Streatfeild. In his early life, Streatfeild was curate to Reverend Pennicott, and he wrote and published the funeral sermon for the late Reverend.
A cancelled plate depicting the same subject can be found in the Society's collections (LDSAL2022.2.36).
This plate is listed in a handlist of the woodblocks and copper plates commissioned by Thomas Streatfeild found in one drawer at the Society of Antiquaries. In the list, the plate is described as "not a Kent print", as Streatfeild's planned publication was meant to be about that county.
The printing plates and woodblocks commissioned by Streatfeild for his "History of Kent" were donated by Mrs Streatfeild (daughter-in-law) to the Society in 1890 (see Proceedings, May 1st, 1890, p. 149).
Digitised thanks to the kind donation of Mr Peter Hammond FSA.
