Rectangular wooden printing block showing:-
Obverse: carved and engraved design depicting fragment from an inscribed slab, from the Cawfields milecastle on the Housteads - Great Chesters sector of Hadrian's Wall; showing four lines of an inscription featuring a dedication to the Emperor Hadrian from the Second Legion Augusta. The surviving inscription is shown in capitals and divided by a line on the other side of which is an interpretation of the full dedication in lower case. Ink residue remaining on surface.
Reverse: printer's waste paper attached to surface with handwritten publication reference.
