Rectangular wooden printing block showing:-
Obverse: carved and engraved design depicting a twelfth century inscribed arched doorway, which acts as an entrance to the tomb of Bishop Jean d'Asside, from the Church of Saint-Etienne-de-la-Cité in Périgueux, in the Dordogne region of France; showing curving form of the doorway at the top, decorated with repeating leaf and floral motifs, with five lines in Latin inscribed to the right; this stands on a similarly decorated pedestal, from which extends a long inscribed slab featuring a further Latin dedication (to Jean d'Asside), which abuts a column which is topped with a spiralling serpent. Signed 'G.BOUET DEL' and 'OJEWITT SC' at the bottom. Ink residue remaining on surface.
Reverse: handwritten publication reference on surface.
Digitised thanks to the kind donation of Dr Christopher de Hamel FSA.
