Obverse: carved and engraved design depicting a reproduction of a woodcut illustration from a 17th century broadside, originally from c. 1647; showing three male figures in rectangular panels, in hats and cloaks, with hands outstretched in some form of gesture; each panel is accompanied by a title, namely 'Ould Extreame', 'Goulden Meane', and 'New Extreame'. Image reproduced from a sheet examining the concept of the 'golden mean', titled 'Thirty and two extremes of these times discovered and reduced to sixteene golden meanes, tending to the reducing of strayers the establishing of waverers, and the uniting of judgements and hearts together in the truth.'. Printed in London by John Wright. Ink residue remaining on surface.
