The item is a letter dated 31 January 1814, from Thomas Espin to Nicholas Carlisle, Secretary of the Society of Antiquaries. It concerns a Bronze Age urn found in Lincolnshire. It accompanies a drawing of the urn (Primeval Antiquities 41.2). The letter includes a description of the circumstances of the urn's discovery. It was found inverted and there was much blackened and burnt soil in the vicinity, but there was no sign of a barrow, perhaps it was ploughed out. The urn was broken by the labourers who found it.
