'Jan. 12, 1786. - Lord Arden exhibited a gold ring of a singular form, which was lately found in ploughing a field at Silchester. The hoop is formed into several squares, in the uppermost of which is a head rudely engraved, with the letters VENUS in Roman capitals round it, and in the several other compartments the above inscription.'
